About Greenwood Friends School

Where we are

Greenwood Friends School is located on Route 254 about three miles east of Millville in Columbia County in northeast Pennsylvania. Nearby towns from which we draw students include Bloomsburg (home of Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania), Danville (home of Geisinger Medical Center), and Berwick. School mission statement

Our philosophy is spelled out in our Mission Statement.

Greenwood is proud of its Quaker background. The school is under the care of Millville Monthly Meeting and the Upper Susquehanna Quarterly Meeting.

Employment Opportunities at GFS

Job postings for any open teaching positions at Greenwood Friends School will be listed on the Friends Council on Education Web site.

Combining Grades Through "Teaming"

Greenwood Friends School has adopted an organizational design that we call "teaming." Our teams are: Pre-Primary Team, preschool ages; Primary Team, kindergarten to grade 2; Intermediate Team, grades 3 to 5; and Middle School Team, grades 6 to 8.

From primary grades through Middle School, students in each team are assigned to a homeroom with an appropriate number of students. Flexible groupings are set up for Math and Language Arts. Teaching teams share responsibility for challenging and supporting students throughout the year. The teachers continually assess students' needs and strengths.

Art, Music, Spanish, and other enrichment programs

Besides its regular classes, Greenwood Friends School offers courses in art, music, Spanish, physical education, and library skills.

In addition to its full-time and part-time teachers, the school has a number of classroom aides, many of whom are education majors at Bloomsburg University.
