Alumni Day Draws Former Students, Staff

Alumni and former staff members returned to GFS on Thursday, September 26, 1996. They had a chance to visit classes and enjoy a pizza lunch. And they helped us to officially dedicate our new Musical Bridge with a piece created just for the occasion by Mary Knysh and all her music students.

The day gave us a chance to remember a former teacher and four students who have died. The teacher, Jeannie Miller, was killed in a motorcycle crash in Wyoming early in September 1996. The students were:

  • Eric Sherlinski
  • Jim Palmer
  • Ming Thomas, and
  • Kristin Gale.

At the luncheon, we inaugurated our Minority Scholarship in memory of Ming Thomas.

This was the first time we scheduled an alumni event on a school day. That gave alums a chance to meet more old friends and gave all of us a chance to see our former students and remember those we have lost in the 18 years since GFS opened.
