The heart of learning a new instrument comes in the fast-paced, half-hour shared among student, parent and teacher each week.
In the very first lessons, child and teacher may play games to master the bow grip and posture that make music possible. Children learn to listen to the teacher play a musical phrase and duplicate it on their own instrument. They review previously mastered works, add new variations and study the teaching points for new music.
Once they have learned to handle their instruments, they begin the study of note-reading and music theory as part of the lesson.
