World Statistics Updated in Real Time This is a cool use of statistics. NOT to be used for exact counts.
It calculates values based on current interesting stats and demographic data.
Iraq casualty count This comes up from time to time...how many Pennsylvanians have been killed in the war? In addition to the next sites, this newspaper library is also keeping a spreadsheet of Pennsylvanians killed with name, hometown, date of death, whether or not they are local and whether or not we have a photo of them.
War in Iraq CNN keeps a list of casualties, viewable by name or by date. Then use the Find command on your browser Edit menu to look for Pennsylvania or Pa.
Fallen Warriors U.S. Department of Defense. Doesn't sort by individual states, but it's still
possible to look at the state entries by using method described in the CNN site.
Statistical resources on the web From the University of Michigan, this is constantly
updated. There's a What's New button at the top, and then the site is arranged in topical categories.
HomeTownLocator Community Profiles This site is comparable to another one that I often use called dPodunk (see under Statistics). It says that it profiles over 42,000 U.S. cities, towns and zipcodes. "HTL profiles include census, demographic and income data, parks, schools, libraries, hospitals, airports, environmental conditions, local newspapers, media outlets, employment, maps, coordinates and aerial photos."
ePodunk From Garry Lenton "When you want to know demograhic information
about Podunk, or any other place in the U.S., go to this site." It is full of information about geographical locations,
which might be handy for a story.
NationMaster.com Another statistics site, only this one concentrates on nations.
It allows you to compare countries in certain categories.
