• Trademark Checklist Put up by the International Trademark Association, it's an easy look at trademarks. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on a letter of the alphabet. The same-looking page will come back but scroll to the bottom again, and you'll get your list results. There is also a search box, but it doesn't seem to function well. The site is still under construction.
• U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Here's another way to search for trademarks on this U.S. Patent and Trademark Office search engine. This is the opening page which contains a search link for patents and a link to search trademarks.

• Wikipedia The Free Encyclopedia Anyone can edit the entries, but there is some control over it. Good links out of some of the articles.

• The History of Community Supported Agriculture, Part 1 CSA's are an agricultural trend that we have written about this past year. This is the first in a two-part series exploring the birth of the CSA movement in the United States. Part 2 is linked from this.

• Sources and Experts This is an excellent site of many experts pulled together by a news researcher at the St. Petersburg Times. As the site says "In compiling this list, a strong preference has been shown for organizations that make it possible to search for experts by area of specialty, that provide contact information (phone and e-mail) and that publish the expert's credentials." This is a good place to begin.
• The Annapolis Group A consortium of liberal arts colleges across the country, many of whom are from Pennsylvania. Search box allows you to search by topic, name, college, keywords. There is a link at the top of the page called Member Colleges which will give you the colleges and their addresses.
• Duke University News Sources This looks good. They are presenting sources to discuss various ramifications from 9/11, as well as many other topics.
• Kennedy School of Government 9/11 Experts
• Lawyer Locator Free database of legal experts
• Media Resource Linking journalists and scientists
• The Pew Internet & American Life Project This is a source for experts who can comment on all aspects of the Internet.
• Profnet Profnet is set up and run by college/university P.R. people who make experts available without charge as a source in a story. However, you must register at the site before you can search it.
• ReligionSource Find an expert on any aspect of religion
• Expert Sources This is from American Press Institute, and is a whole array of links to various experts, some of which I have listed separately for your convenience here. This is definitely worth a look for other sources to use.
• WhoRepresents Agent database. Enter a celebrity's name in the search form and get who represents them
• U.S. City and Town Official Websites A good site to have in your back pocket when you need contact info. Sites vary widely. Some are well-developed and others are barely off the ground.
• Yearbook of Experts Online Searchable.

• Feeding America The Historic America Cookbook Project.

• Federal Government Information Tutorial How to locate federal government information on the web
• LOUIS Fully searchable depository for federal documents on the web from the executive and legislative branches of government. Read the LOUIS posting (6/19/07) on my INFORMATIONISTA blog for a fuller description.
• U.S. Government Manual Searchable. Past years also available
• U.S. Congress Votes Database It features"every vote in the United States Congress since the 102nd Congress (1991)." Browse votes by member, or by topics such as party, state, region, "boomer status," gender, missed votes, and astrological sign; and for specific types of votes, such as impeachments, nominations, and treaties. It's a Washington Post.com site.

• Medscape Peer-reviewed articles, medical news, Medline reviews. It's free but you have to register.

• Bloglines This is a blog reader that I have used and liked. It allows you to subscribe to any number of blogs. Then, instead of bookmarking a bunch of blogs and going to them individually to see if there are new postings, you can go to one site (bloglines) and see instantly whether there are new posts and then read them. It also means that you can log into it on any computer and read your favorite blogs. Bloglines is a blog aggregator.
• CataList The mailing list directory, allows you to search by topic for email listservs.
• Cool Quiz! Trivia facts catagorized by subject as well as a trivia search box.
• Directory search Search the web by topic. From Google.
• Domain Name Search searches .com, .net and .org and attaches a whois search link to every result, so that you can get a contact name and contact info. This is also valuable when researching a company, because you can find out possible other divisions or products, sharing the same domain name.
• FatWallet.com This site lists sales and deals in popular chain stores in our area that might not be advertised.
• Finding email addresses This tool uses 7 or 8 different email search engines which makes the search easier for you since you only have to enter the name once
• Gigablast Directory Another good directory of links by subject.
• Invisible Web Presentation at PNU on 3/15/01
• Librarians' Index to the Internet Searchable. Very highly regarded. Information from 8000 web resources, annotated, compiled by librarians, including only the "best" in categories.
• Omgili - What People are Saying This is a new, effective search engine of online discussions on over 100,000 message boards and forums. To get an idea of what subjects are popular, click on the Buzzz link at the top of the search page, which takes you to another page that lists popular topics, updated once an hour.
• People finding guide Web tools for finding people.
• People Search: Pennsylvania Databases Online Links to databases specifically from Pennsylvania public records. Puts a dollar sign in front of the ones that charge, but many are free.
• PIPL A people search engine that searches the deep web, the invisible web. Much personal data contained in databases is on the deep web.
• Researching people on the Internet An article with valuable links for researching the businesses and organizations with which a person might be affiliated, as well as checking on political contributions they may have made.
• Skipease Nice collection of people-finding searches, including a mail drop search and cell phone identifier. Most are free, but to continue with a more in-depth search, some of them require payment.
• WWW Virtual Library
• Search Systems.net Public record information network
• Stumpers Searchable archives for the email-based resource where reference librarians help each other find answers to difficult questions.
• Yahoo Directory This isn't new but is sometimes difficult to find. I like it because it gives you links by topic, which can be valuable when researching sources for infoboxes.
