Hawk's Outlook

Well, yes, I know it's misleading. As far as I know, there's no geocache at Shea Stadium. (Hmmmm....) But this is where I was 24 hours prior to my trek into Rickett's Glen State Park to search for the Hawk's Outlook cache. And given the name, this perspective of the Phillies and Mets seemed appropriate. Beyond that, it is two very different worlds.

I have been up and down Rickett's Glen many times, but never on this particular trail. The variation in the park is one of its assets, but you can always count on ferns.

I have a thing for paths that twist and turn and go around corners. Someone taught me that they stretch the mind and enthrall the heart. This one got steeper and rockier as it wound its way through the woods - as so many do.

I found the cache without much difficulty. It's a nice one - loaded with fun things. I left the dancin' girl and took a wish upon a star. Go figure.

Then I rewarded myself with a pipe, which also had the advantage of keeping the skeeters at bay.

Near the cache off the main trail, there is a little foot path (below left) that leads to a wonderful overlook. But it is not merely the view that is rewarding. The four pictures, below right, were taken within six feet of each other, looking in different directions.

The path down is as rewarding as the path up - all the moreso because one is not panting for breath every 100 feet.

A tree that changed direction in its life...

...and one that fancied itself a triceratops.

To appreciate the natural world, one must always be prepared to look up...

...and down.

And to tread softly in God's World.
