The Three Landscapes of Relationship©

The above table is a representation of the total technique of The Three Landscapes of Relationship Astrology©. While almost none of this is new, the combined synthesis provides a catalytic way of combining the 4th and 5th stage approaches to relationship astrology. It draws from the writings of many skilled authors, including of course, Noel Tyl.

Just FYI, the pattern of the combination(though not the individual techniques) as explained here is Copyright©Eric J. Uberseder, 2003, all rights reserved. This is how it always is in astrology, as nothing is really new.

The first inner Landscape explores what each individual takes to the party. This would involve their own needs, their abilities at making a real relationship, and their character impacts that make for relating with another person. It also includes an exposition regarding how each will perceive the different aspects of sex and intimacy on a basic action level. This is a very important consideration in romantic relationships, and especially so for the man in a hetero-sexual romantic relationship.

The second Landscape is an abstract description of their relationship itself. It takes the individual needs and puts them in a context. One is not looking at individual needs; one is looking at a composite appreciation of how the relationship will proceed.

This is, in my not so humble opinion, only effectively done by looking at the broad themes of natal astrology as written in ZARATHU Total Immersion Astrology’s Seven Quotients of Natal Astrology©(http://home.epix.net/~tzarathu).

We look to see how their combined relationship will fare in regards to dealing with changes, dealing with creativity and illusion, with the energy to keep going, with aspects of unlimited growth(such as too much money!), with the troubles involving limitations to growth(such as incompatibilities or children or too little money), with the ability to focus on a life direction together, and finally with a statement of viability. A composite relationship analyzed in any other manner will not provide adequate information, since a composite relationship is a broad theme process.

The third Landscape involves how the determining how the potential couple meshes on a day to day basis. It can show, for example that their day to day meshing produces a wonderful romantic or sexual relationship, but that if they have to share their stuff, both physical and self-esteem or career, they don’t have much of a future.

When one combines all Three Landscapes of Relational Astrology, one has developed a complete picture of a potential or existing relationship. Combined with a discussion, and particularly in using the linguistic analyses of Neuro-Linguistic Programming Technique from Counseling Psychology, it is quite effective in determining possibilities, SEEN AND UNSEEN.

I know: EASIER SAID THAN DONE! However, for those of you who are interested, once understood, its actually EASIER DONE THAN SAID!!

Below…I've provided a minimal outline for this process. A clear and specific manual comes at another time.

Important Caveat:

This is exposition is 4th/5th stage Transitional Astrology. As such, the RULE OF THREES is fully in force. This means you must take any statement with a grain of salt and look for more evidence in other areas. The RULE goes like this:

See it once……maybe

See it twice…….possibly

See it three times…..probably

See it more than three times…..CERTAINLY!

You will need more than this outline to effectively follow THE RULE!

LANDSCAPE ONE:

Individually Identified by Natal Horoscopes:

What Do They Each Bring To The Party,

and

Can There Even Be a Party?

Basic Considerations:

1. Is a relationship possible between the individuals, and how do their needs and traits at relationship building show this?

a. Planet ruling house on the cusp of the first sign is YOU(either classically or by Cosmodyne)

Look for aspect to another’s planet that rules the planet on their 1st cusp.
There must be an aspectual relationship: the more harmonious, the better.

b. No aspect relationship? Then, this is what you do(but you have to follow these rules):

Use Mars as YOU, but other person’s Ascendant ruler can’t be Uranus, and the other person’s 7th house ruler can’t be the Sun
and
Mars and Venus must be in aspect or in mutual reception.

2. Look at the incidence of inconjuncts in both natal horoscopes.

Inconjuncts usually imply reorganizations where you get less than you expected. This means that either person may be in a position to have lots of circumstances where their expectations are always running away with them. Inconjuncts in a chart are a major part of my organizational style in the the First Quotient of THE SEVEN QUOTIENTS OF NATAL ASTROLOGY©. There are many other ways besides this to measure this in a chart.

3. Look for mutual receptions in either chart. The more mutual receptions you see, the greater tendency there is for the person to increase harmony of the relationship despite inadequacies in compatibility. A mutual reception allows any interaction with a planet that gets a bind going, to have that planet slide sideways and take the position of the other planet. People with mutual receptions tend to be less locked into things. Mutual receptions in those planets that resist change in one way or another can be most beneficial such as Mars, and especially Saturn. But any of them can have their restrictive tendencies.

4. Look for a brush stroke of early discord in the relationship: if the Ascendant in either chart is in the other’s 6th, 8th, or 12th house. This is called a brush stroke because if you see it, you are only alerted to a potential. There are so many things that can prevent it from growing any way.

5. Look for the Ascendant in one person to be on the other’s Mid-Heaven. With this configuration, one may take precedence over the other in a business, legal or political matters, and may even manage the other’s affairs. This is not a big deal if you don’t mind being managed.

6. The following are characteristics useful to a good relationship in individual charts:

a. Character(honesty, faithfulness, dependability, a sense of responsibility)

(1) Saturn and Mars in good aspect to each other

(2) Saturn and Mars in 1st quadrant

(3) Saturn and Mars parallel or in good aspect to the ruler of the Ascendant

(4) Saturn and Mars well placed by sign

(5) Jupiter angular OR in good aspect to the ruler of the Ascendant

(6) Planets above the horizon, showing openness

(7) Look for number of retrograde planets.

These show a capacity to eat crow and try it again.

However, be aware that it may also show an unwillingness to move on, if the relationship dies. The native may go back again and again despite the fact that the relationship died a long time ago.

Remember everything has an axis.

b. The following show characteristics of fitness and aptitude to establishing and running a partnership:

(1) good aspect between Mercury and the ruler of the Ascendant.

(2) planets that are strong by sign(or which have good power and low friction) and in the house ruling marriage or children or harmony, etc.(different houses, of course)

(3) Malefics in the 1st quadrant(because they were great teachers of mistakes early in life)

(4) Ruler of Ascendant in good aspect(or powerful and of low friction) to the ruler of the house of the kind of relationship issue involved

(5) Ruler of Ascendant in good aspect(or powerful and of low friction) to a planet in the house of the kind of relationship issue involved. This means that if you are looking at a partnership, it would be the 7th house; a romance, it would be the 5th, etc.

(6) Ruler of the house of the kind of relationship NOT being badly aspected(or weak and of high friction)

c. Patterns which portend a tendency to manifest permanence in any relationship

(1) Look at Mars-Venus aspectual relationship in a chart, and look at the power/friction condition of the Moon(in man’s chart) & the Sun(in woman’s chart):

First, this is done by looking for aspects or mutual receptions between the Mars-Venus and the Moon-Sun. Second, look for parallels between the Mars-Venus and the Moon-Sun(a parallel is a declination within 15 minutes in either north or south declination). This increases the tendency to provide permanence in a relationship. Finally, look for Venus or Mars ruling the Ascendant. This is a an automatic positive portent to a positive partnership.

(2) Look at the house placement of Part of Marriage. This may show where the mate is met originally. If it does, then you may consider that the use of the Arabic Parts, and the Part of Marriage and Fortune may be especially useful in this context.

(3) Marriage is more permanent for a person who has a fixed sign on the 1st or 7th but not if Uranus or Mars is in the 7th house. Uranus tends to causing unusual changes, and mars tends to want to cut first and talk later.

(4) Look to to see if the person’s the ruler of the 7th house is retrograde, or there is a planet that is retrograde there. This means that reconciliation are more likely as the person with it is likely to go back and try again.

(5) Look at the sign/ascendant/house relationships between the two people’s charts:

Look to see if the person’s sign on the Ascendant is in the other’s 1st, 5th, or 7th house: This may portend a great tendency to relating by harmony and affection. However, if the sign on one Ascendant is in the other’s 6th, 8th, or 12th house: the two will disagree often and be disappointed in each other’s behavior. If the sign on one Ascendant is in the other’s 4th or 10th: tendency of one to assume rulership over the other upsetting relationship stability. If the sign on one Ascendant is in the other’s 3rd, 9th, or 11th: relationship will tend to be on the friendly and companionable side. If the sign on one Ascendant is in the other’s 2nd or 8th: possessiveness is significant, which may be good or bad as some people like to be possessed and some don’t.

(6) Malefics can cause a brushstroke of possible strife by their house placements unless there is some kind of constraining aspect to Saturn. Houses of danger if malefics are there are: 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th, 10th & 12th.

7. Sun-Moon Blend Patterns.

These give a clear indication of the shared pattern of the existence and goal. Compare the goal in life pattern between the two people See pp. 76-102 Synthesis and Counseling in Astrology by Noel Tyl. This is very significant information.

8. In a similar way, Moon represents change and emotional interaction. Noel Tyl has determined a set of Moon-Marriage Orientation patterns. Look to see if there is any connection about the way their basic instincts toward partnerships interact.

See pages 97-99 of The Astrology of Intimacy, Sexuality, & Relationship by Noel Tyl.

9. Combine the Moon in the signs, as determined in #8 above, with the condition of the 7th house ruler and any strong aspects to the Moon.

10. Look to see what planet is in the natal 1st & 7th House Planet placements, or is the Ruler of the 1st or 2nd house cusp:

If its the Sun, then the individual has a greater tendency to be Like Mars but prouder and less active and jealous, more dependent on others, averse to accepting responsibility, but tending to luck. In a male chart: the native gets support from wife, mother and women; in a female chart: there is an improved position through the partnership.

If its the Moon, then the individual has a greater tendency to bend in everyday life, especially when closely aspecting Neptune. This placement can produce inconsistency in a domestic relationship unless other things intervene(retrogradation, power aspect to Saturn, etc.) Sometimes feelings can erupt between the persons caused by an oversensitivity and outraged pride.

If its Mercury, then the individual has a greater tendency to be intelligent, active, industrious, but restless person; s/her may be happy working together with spouse and be a good conversationalist; If Mercury is in aspect to Saturn or Mars, then usually always the native may appear always youthful. In this partnership, one of the people is the learner, and other the teacher, perhaps alternating. Sometimes there is more than one marriage, but always there are many journeys, and several changes of address, over the period or the partnership.

If its Venus, then the individual has a greater tendency to be Kind, indulgent, gentle mannered, willing to follow spouse’s lead and have happy home life.

If its Mars, then the individual has a greater tendency to be Active, jealous, independent person who tries to take the lead, will not accept second place, nor change his ways, unless Mars is in mutual reception with another planet giving him an “out”. If Scorpio is on the cusp, and also conjunct the 19th degree, there is a greater potential for difficult partnership)

If its Jupiter, then the individual has a greater tendency to be Like Venus, but more tendency to spend and give things away, optimistic, happy eager to please.

If its Saturn, then the individual has a greater tendency to be quiet, industrious, patient, but often frustrated mate, unable to share outwardly how s/he feels inwardly, and sometimes a burden to the other person
If its Uranus, then the individual has a greater tendency to be an eccentric mate who departs from the norm in at least one way, is unpredictable, and may have some kind of personal cross to bear that impacts on the partnership. One of the partners plays 2nd fiddle, or the partners establish areas where they are the dominant one. If Uranus is in or ruling the 7th , the eccentricity and unpredictability may cause a separation, depending on other aspects.

If its Neptune, then the individual has a greater tendency to cause difficulties which can be foreboding for the partnership such as keeping secrets. This can be especially difficult if neptune is in high frictional aspect to Mercury. There may be an attraction to keeping marriage and related issues secret, to a seclude it from everyday life. There may even me a delayed marriage ceremony due to unspecified issues. The movie RUNAWAY BRIDE with Richard Gere and Julia Roberts is all about Neptune in this placement.

If its Pluto, there is a greater tendency to complicate marriage; The mate may never there when needed.

If its Dark Moon Lilith, then the individual has a greater tendency to exhibit loneliness with mate by withdrawing and denying companionship.

LANDSCAPE TWO:

The Composite Chart:

Defining of the Abstract Characteristics of the Relationship

Many characteristics that are measurable in the natal chart can be used to identify the characteristics of the relationship.

Particular attention must be paid to the houses in the Cosmodyne chart. These measure the areas of life where the relationship shows impact. The first three houses(shown on the Cosmodyne tabulation) in regard to power and to harmony are the most significant impacts of the relationship. Use the derived ascendant option to determine the place of meeting.

Look at the composite chart as a natal chart, but its not a personal natal chart. In a sense you almost have to be looking at it in a mundane way, such as an event chart in Horary(which is, in fact, the #7 Quotient). So in this context the natal interpretation takes precedence. In this circumstance, the Seven Quotients of Astrology take a special level of intensity:

You cannot look at the composite chart as you would an individual person. You must be using a theme pattern and the best I know THE SEVEN QUOTIENTS OF NATAL ASTROLOGY©, Of course, I’m biased on that one.

LANDSCAPE THREE:

Synastric Considerations

In this chart pattern, you are actually comparing the two charts together by looking to see which planets are in the other person’s houses, and signs; and looking at it from the angle of each person. Each will perceive the other differently. And each will perceive the impact of the planet in the other’s house in a different way. See sidebar on a real life example

Nature and purpose of the relationship

The first consideration in looking at Synastry is the kind of relationship. In each kind of partnership, there are different planetary emphases.

In a Teacher /Student Partnership, Mercury(basic knowledge), Jupiter(higher education and broader philosophic understandings), and Saturn(teacher role as organizer, disciplinarian, taskmaster) are much more in emphasis.

In a Romantic Partnership, Sun(affecting romantic attractions), Mars(affecting male principles), and Venus(affecting female principles) and the most important planets to prioritize first. Some important comparative aspects are Venus/Mars, Venus/Moon, Venus/Sun, Venus/Uranus, & Venus/Pluto.

One might think that Marriage Partnerships are the same as Romantic but add, but one must be added. Saturn is important because of the ability to deal with responsibility, patience, and discipline in a relationship that requires everyday little interactions.

In Business and Professional Partnerships, three other patterns are important. First you want to look for Compatibility in Finances, which is represented by aspect relationships between Venus & the Moon, 2nd house Ruler aspects, and Planets in 2nd house of either person. Secondly. you want to explore Compatibility in Professional Affairs, Public Recognition Ambition, and Career Goals. These are seen in the aspect relationships between Mars and Saturn, the 10th house and ruler of the 10th house, and planets in the 10th house of either person. Third, one needs to explore Compatibility in Know-How, Intelligence for Everyday Commonsense, and Personal Experience in the Business Issues at hand. These are seen by looking at Mercury, the 6th house and ruler of the 6th house, the Interactions in the charts between Mercury and the 6th house, and planets in the 6th house of either

In Parent Child Partnerships, the impact of Saturn is most significant.

Finally we have something called Evolutionary Comparisons. These are relationships of real character can exist best between those of similar evolutionary position. No matter how well their charts look together, its unlikely that a person from the 20th century, and one who functions at an aboriginal level in the Australian outback are going to have a fine partners. Measuring evolutionary development is certainly difficult. however, whatever it is called, we would look for the following similar connections between persons: Uranus, Neptune, Pluto: in closer conjunction to angles, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto: in exact aspect to other planets especially the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Ruler of Ascendant, and strong Mercury(for similar levels of intelligence and communicative ability), a strong Saturn for the capacity for self discipline, and a strong Sun for level of basic power and will
As you look at the combined charts, are there combinations that jump right out of the page as problematic or supportive elements? Certainly, and the following are some examples:

1. Suns in opposition, trine, sextile, parallel can provide an interaction pattern that is supportive. Suns are in square aspect show a continual butting of head to solve problems. Look for mutual receptions and parallels can to overcome the square.

2. Both Moons in the same sign, shows a common emotional appreciation of problems.
The Moons in non frictional aspect to each other, in good aspect to other’s Ascendant, in good aspect to other’s Sun, in good aspect to other’s Jupiter, or in good aspect to other’s Mercury, can be obviously useful.

And by the same token, Moons afflicting each other would show a clash of personality, as would
on person’s Moon afflicting the other’s Sun.

3. For love and happiness to continue throughout the relationship, it would be helpful to find Venus parallel to other’s Mars especially in fixed signs or angular houses, Venus parallel to other’s Uranus especially in fixed signs or angular houses, Venus parallel to other’s Saturn especially in fixed signs or angular houses, Venus well-aspected to other’s Mars especially in fixed signs or angular houses, Venus well-aspected to other’s Uranus especially in fixed signs or angular houses, and Venus well-aspected to other’s Saturn especially in fixed signs or angular houses(which gives modesty, tact & diplomacy).

4. Jupiter aspecting Mars gives optimism when needed. Jupiter aspecting Venus give the same only a bit less. Jupiter aspecting Venus in the 10th might show financial gain by the marriage. Jupiter in non-frictional aspect to or parallel with Uranus might give unexpected windfalls.

5. Uranus aspecting Venus or Mars sometimes shows love at first sight, and possibly an eventual more permanent partnership, if angular.

6. The Nodal Axis can be an especially telling sign of a synastry if there is an aspect by square or opposition or inconjunct or conjunct between the special planet, Ascendant or Mid-Heaven.

Some examples of how this might work is seen in this way:

Ascendant: obviously a core event connected tot he supremacy of the personality itself, and how they look to the world

Mid-Heaven : obviously connected to career issues, a shared sense of personal destiny
Sun or Moon: a core recognition, a belonging to one another
Mercury: focused in the mind and thinking processes, and communication
Venus: romantic perceptions of reality
Mars: aggression and defensiveness, along with strong sexuality in follow-up, the fight then wild sexual make-up

Jupiter
: enthusiasm, understanding, learning
Saturn
: controlling circumstances, mutual manipulations
Uranus: intense electrifying shared magnetism
Neptune: deception or mistrust, or a shared fantasy or aesthetic appreciation
Pluto: shared empowerment and resolve

7. Midpoint pictures: Planet in one chart serving as the midpoint of two planets in the other chart. Read the relationship specifically in pp. 783-860 of Synthesis and Counseling in Astrology by Noel Tyl, or the whole volume of COSI by Ebertin

8. House Placements: One person’s planet is in the house of the other person.

9. Aspect Placements: One person’s planet is in aspect to another person’s planet
