On June 1, 1871, Triton Hose Company was organized as a result of a devastating fire in the business district that occurred on October 27, 1870. Since that time it has remained very active in protecting the lives and property of the Tunkhannock area. The name Triton comes from mythology "God of Water". The hose company has been housed in several different buildings in the main area of town since its organization. The current hose house is located at 108 W Tioga Street, one of the main streets in Tunkhannock.

The company is entirely volunteered with approximately 70 active and 300 social members. There is a fleet of eight emergency vehicles and "Old Glory" a 1928 American LaFrance pumper retired from emergency service but still used for parades and special events.

Triton Hose Company #1 protects an area of 87 square miles with a population of 9042 people. This area includes Tunkhannock Borough, Tunkhannock Township, Eaton Township, and Lemon Township, all located in Wyoming County, Pennsylvania.
