Building the Pit Lane
These are pictures of the track for the pit lane painted
Now for my first attempt at scratch building
Because there was no way I was going to pay upwards of
$50 plus for pit lane buildings
The materials I used only cost me about ten bucks for 4 garages instead of $200
For 90% of the structure I used 1/8" foam board ($2.00 a sheet at Walmart)
I used 3/32" dowls for the railings and cardboard for the steps
The most expensive items were the acrylic paints and Quick Hold craft adhesive
Getting the scale right was probably the hardest part
After that it's just time and ideas
Here are pictures in progression of the garage being built
A picture showing notching the foam for the interrior walls and outside corners
Now for some painting
I used painting tape to make all the lines and acrylics for the paint
The stairs are made from cardboard folded like an accordian
Then used pieces of left over foam and glued underneath for the support of the risers
Here are a couple pics with the tower and catwalk finished
I have just added some sponser decals
