May, June, & July Meetings:
Some thoughts on the previous meetings:
Per Capita Tax repealed:
The May meeting saw the repeal of the per capita tax. This ordinance repealing the tax passed 3 to 0.
Storm Water:
The recent storms have placed a burden on Maidencreek's storm water system, but in most areas we had less trouble than we have had from lesser rains. Reading experienced its worst flooding in some 30 years, but we had less flooding along the Willow creek.
9/30/06 Community Days to be followed by Car Show 10/1/06:
The supervisors voted to approve the Park & Rec. recommendations for community days. These events include:
square dancing
storytelling
Acoustic Jam session
The jam session is open to all. The music will most likely be public domain old time music songs like “Soldier's Joy” and “Turkey in the Straw” etc. The primary keys are D and G. So get out your instrument, guitar, violin, dulcimer etc. and play along. The idea is to be nice to newcomers, and tolerate mistakes. You can find some sheet music for Jams at:
http://www.dulcimers.com/tunes/index.shtml
The purist would say that you should learn the songs by ear.
Note: Community Days (9/30/2006) and the Car Show (10/1/2006) are self funding. The fees to rent booths etc. pay for these events.
Sewage Sludge Ordinance:
The supervisors are hearing testimony on a sewage sludge ordinance. It is the intent that the draft ordinance mirrors the state regulations on spreading sewage sludge on farmland. The testimony has taken place at 6:30 before the June, and July meetings. This will continue before the August meeting.
Five Member Board:
At the July meeting, Karl Weston informed the board that he had enough signatures to get a question on the ballot for this fall. The question will be if the residents want to increase the board from 3 to 5. From what I have seen, this group is not clear on the agenda for wanting the five member board. Their web site does not give specifics, and as far as I know they have not communicated anything other than what is on their website to any of the supervisors. Karl asked that the board vote to put the question on the ballot. Claude made a motion that died for lack of a second.

I still have copies of the Fredrick Bastiat book “The Law” available to Maidencreek residents. Email me if you want one.
