November 12, 2002 Northern Berks Police Meeting:

This meeting included an executive session concerning the union contract. The results of the negotiation will be made public at a later time.

The police are investigating the replacement of their 9mm Smith and Wesson pistols with the 40 cal Glock 22. This will involve changing the ammunition supply as well.

November 13, 2002 Maidencreek Regular Business Meeting:

What follows is a quick summary of the township meeting.

Speeding:

At the last meeting the board voted to have stripes painted on some of the roads in the developments where speeding is a perpetual problem. The weather has allowed the painting. Some residents are displeased with the stripes. It remains to be seen if the stripes have the desired effect.

Land Use Plans:

The Melrose Place planning modules were approved and sent to DEP for their review.

Stolzfuss preliminary plan was approved, and all conditions have been met for final approval as well. Final approval was also granted.

Operation Manager's Report:

We will be disposing of a Wayne Street Sweeper. The unit never worked well, but does have a good Dodge 318 cu. in. engine. The engine will likely be sold, and the rest of the unit will go for scrap. If you want to bid on a 318 Dodge, call the township building.

We passed a motion to buy a skid of crack sealing material for $850.

We approved the installation of a street light at the intersection of Cornerstone and Spirit Court.

Budget:

We approved advertising the budget for adoption. There is no property tax increase, however, there will be a charge for recycling. The exact amount of the charge depends upon whether Gloria's suggestion will work out. (See 10/10/02 meeting for more recycling details)

Treasurer:

Regina Sanders, our secretary treasurer, has decided to retire. It is with regret that we see Regina go. She has served the township and its people well over the years. You may want to join us in wishing Regina well in this new phase of her life. Regina is training Diane Hollenbach on her treasurer responsibilities. The board will meet this Wednesday in executive session to decide exactly what to do.
