March 13, 2003 Maidencreek Regular Business Meeting:
Attendence:
All three supervisors attended the meeting.
Martin Retirement Village:
See last month's meeting for background on this. Mr. Martin has now received his last pump out from the township. The sewage enforcement officer is periodically checking for leaks.
James Hardie Inc.:
James Hardie has purchased the old ChemPlank building, and plans on an expansion. This is exactly the type of development we need in the township. They have purchased some "paper streets" and desire to build on Emil Street. Paper streets are streets that appeared in the plan that was filed with the township, and the Recorder of Deeds Office, but were never built. Since James Hardie has purchased Emil street and the surrounding property, they want to just fold it into their new plan. Emil Street was never dedicated to the township. The township and the township solicitor are working to expedite James Hardie's plans while protecting the interests of the residents.
Recycling:
This is the big news. We gave the solicitor input that he will use to develop the drafts of the recycling regulations. These drafts are likely to be passed at the April Meeting. There has been much interest in grass clippings. The state does not want valuable landfill space being used for grass clippings. Below is a preliminary draft of the section of recycling regulations that affects residents. This draft is based on my notes, and will not be exactly what the solicitor produces. I am providing this to give you an idea of what is going on. Come to the April meeting to participate in the discussion, and see what ultimately gets passed.
Single family dwellings, one to four family dwelling units and mobile home parks shall recycle as follows:
Items to be recycled
Aluminum (and other cans)
Plastics 1 and 2
All colors of glass
Newspapers
Leaf Waste, Christmas trees and grass clippings.
Newspapers shall be tied or placed in brown paper bags alongside the recycling receptacle. Newspaper shall not be placed curbside or along the street if it is raining or the threat of rain is imminent on the designated recycling day.
Leaf Waste shall not be placed in the approved Recycling container but placed at or near the street and/or curbside as designated in Section IV of these regulations. Yard Brush shall be bundled and tied.
Residents have the following options with grass clippings:
Mulch the grass clippings on your lawn.
Compost the grass clippings on your property
Drop off the grass clippings at a facility provided by the township
Recyclables, other than aluminum cans, newspapers, leaf waste, and grass clippings shall be placed inside a container specified and approved by the Township and may be commingled in the container.
No earlier than one day before any scheduled pick up, Recyclables shall be placed at or near the street and/or curbside as determined by the Township or the Township's Authorized Collector for curbside recycling.
The Township shall provide one approved Recycling container to each Property. Property owners shall be responsible for preserving and maintaining the approved container and shall be responsible for purchasing replacement containers should the container become lost damaged, stolen or otherwise unusable. Property owners shall be responsible for purchasing additional containers if more then one Recycling container is needed to meet the needs of the home's occupants.
We actually finished enough business on the 13th that we were able to cancel the meeting for the 20th.
