February 10, 2000 Meeting:
Several issues were discussed:
Route 222 & 73 intersection: A petition was received signed by many citizens both residents and non-residents. It was decided to forward the petition to Dave Argall (our state representative) and PennDot. In my opinion this intersection needs to be reworked. 222 is the most direct way from Allentown to Lancaster-York. When the Park Road modifications are complete, it will be possible to drive from York to Allentown on limited access highway until you hit our light at Route 73. This is bad now and will only get worse.
Ordinances: A resident complained that the neighboring property results in noise early in the morning. He requested a noise ordinance. I asked if he has contacted the offending property owner. He replied that he does not speak to them. Please, if you have an issue with your neighbor, try to resolve it with him first. I do not favor passing ordinances that will apply to the entire township for a specific problem with a couple of people. Such ordinances are selectively enforced, destroy respect for the law, and choke our liberty. Specific neighbor complaints, that cannot be resolved one-on-one, are best handled through the District Justice or the Court of Common Pleas.
Snowmobiles etc. on public land: Complaints have been made about snowmobiles running on some of the public land on Willow Creek. The Board of Supervisors referred the matter of motorized vehicles to the Park and Rec Committee for their opinion. I believe that people should be allowed to run motorized vehicles provided they behave in a reasonable manner. Reasonable is, not riding late at night or early in the morning, maintaining a safe speed, not damaging the turf. Terry Rarick & I seemed to agree on this issue. I would appreciate you opinion on this issue.
