December Meeting:
The Budget:
There was no tax increase, and unfortunately there was also no tax decrease.
As stated last month, a quick view of the budget is that (compared to 2006) the Emergency Fund, and Park and Recreation have been reduced to accommodate a large increase in the Fire Company donation and smaller increases in recycling, police, etc.
As shown in the 2005 tax data (click here for October posting on Berks County Townships tax rates) Maidencreek Township was a little above the average for three-member board townships. We were at 1.25 mils while the average was 1.09 mils. I had hoped to get us down to the average, but I think the average may be coming up to meet us in 2007. I know Richmond has raised their municipal tax rate to 0.75 mils. We include a donation to fire in our 1.25 mil rate, but Richmond has a separate 1.00 mil fire tax as well.
Taxes -Where does Maidencreek stand?:
For each $1,000 in in assessed property value Maidencreek residents pay (including school tax) $31.47. The best you can do in Berks County is Lower Heidelberg with $23.67, and the worst is New Morgan at $50.00. Mount Penn comes in at $40.86. This information comes from http://www.berksweb.com/taxes/ and appears to be based on 2006 tax rates.
I still have copies of the Fredrick Bastiat book “The Law” available to Maidencreek residents. Email me if you want one.
