April 13, 2000 Meeting:
Several issues were discussed:
Zoning Hearing (to be at 6:00 PM just prior to regular meeting): We are considering three Zoning Changes. (1) The area near the Blandon Post Office is already zoned commercial. We are considering changing the zoning to allow buildings with more square feet. (2) There is a small error that caused a couple lots in one development to be zoned commercial. This error is to be corrected. (3) The property owned by the Masons straddles our township and Ontelaunee Township. We are considering rezoning to allow them more flexibility in their layout of the property.
Zoning Results: All three Zoning Changes were approved.
Route 222 & 73 intersection: This was not discussed, but Dave Argall has put out the following agenda: PenDot will put the intersection out for bid in July 2000, start in September, and finish in Fall of 2001.
Snowmobiles etc. on public land: Park & Rec. decided to take no action on the snowmobile issue. The board has decided to take no action at this time.
Roy Timpe proposed the following resolution:
Maidencreek Township Board of Supervisors
A Resolution Memorializing the Federal Government to enact
the PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION BAN ACT OF 2000.
Copies to be sent, upon passage, to Congressman Tim Holden, Senator Arlen Specter, Senator Rick Santorum, and President Clinton.
WHEREAS, the United States House of Representatives recently passed a bill banning the practice of Partial Birth Abortion.
WHEREAS, the practice of Partial Birth Abortion differs from a barbaric infanticide in only one point: The child's head remains in the birth canal while it is killed.
WHEREAS, just as there are physical laws and absolutes, one example being the speed of light, there are also moral laws and absolutes, one example being the shedding of innocent blood is wrong.
WHEREAS, the founders of this nation saw this moral absolute as "self evident" and expressed it as man's unalienable right to life.
WHEREAS, there has been testimony before congress of companies and individuals trafficking in infant tissues, profiting from the shedding of innocent blood and thus perverting the honorable business practice of making a profit.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the Board of Supervisors of Maidencreek Township expresses its thanks to Congressman Tim Holden for his vote in favor of the PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION BAN ACT OF 2000.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the Board of Supervisors of Maidencreek Township urges the Pennsylvania Delegation to the United States Senate to fully support the PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION BAN ACT OF 2000.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the Board of Supervisors of Maidencreek Township urges the President of the United States to fully support and sign the PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION BAN ACT OF 2000.
Terry Rarick stated that he is in disagreement with Tim Holden on this issue. To my surprise, Karl Bolognese failed to second this resolution. I sent a letter to both of these men with the text of the resolution on April 11. They had plenty of time to think about the issue before this meeting. Karl's silence spoke volumes. So you had the only Republican member of the Board proposing a resolution praising the local Democratic congressman for his vote, and the two Democratic Board members refusing to pass it.
