Prison Ministry Committee

Updated 11/18/09

St. Peter's has formed a Prison Ministry team that we have opened up to everyone in the Slate Belt Community. We now serve three local county jails, Northampton, Monroe and Warren. Our fellowship groups include men and women at Northampton, women at Monroe, and men at Warren. We are seeking letter writers for our ministry effort. Guidelines are available for this outreach initiative. Please consider joining us in spreading the word of God behind the walls.

If you are interested in helping by either purchasing Prison Bibles (donations of individual Bibles for $4.25 or cases of 24 Bibles for $100) or just want to help write scripture encouragements as given from a direction sheet for the Bibles, please call Cindy at the Church Office. You are also welcome to join our Prison Visitation Team.

We would also like to supply inmates with pocket-sized New Testaments and daily devotional books. If you could donate a few dollars in an envelope marked "Prision Ministry", we can help spread God's Word to those who want to change their lives. Put your name on the envelope and place it in the offering plate and we will see that it is credited to your church contributions for tax purposes.

Are you interested in helping someone in need? Would you feel comfortable mentoring someone who has been released from jail and is trying to make a positive change in his or her life? If you want to provide this help, The Ex-Offender Re-entry Program of Monroe County is looking for you. Contact Dave Houser for more information.

Other things you can do to help:

Write letters.

Send holiday cards.

Give words of encouragement.

One to one visits.

Pray for those ministering in the prison.
