The time between the end of the school day and the end of the adult work day has traditionally been a problem for working parents. The options have been limited: day care, a relative, a neighbor, or the highly undesirable latch-key solution.
But now there is a better solution -- for parents and children alike. After-school programs have been proven to improve grades and interest in school as well as to boost student self-esteem while providing a safe and secure child care environment. On January 8 of 2001 President Bush signed into law the “No Child Left Behind Act” which strongly supports this type of program.
And now such a program is available to school age children in the Montrose Area.

The School District, recognizing the benefit to their students, has been very supportive od the program and is allowing us to use space in the school.
From the end of the school day (approximately 3:00 p.m.) until 5:30 each day that school is in session for a full day.
What will my child be doing while there?
The children will have time to relax and socialize, have a nutritious snack, complete their homework, and be involved in special programs conducted by the staff as well as by professionals and hobbyists. Our Director plans to include time for reading and math activities every day.
My child has some problems in school. Will this program be able to help?Absolutely! In fact this is one of our objectives. We encourage you to let us know what help your child needs. We will encourage the children to let us know what they are having trouble with. And, with your permission, our staff can work closely with your child's teachers to try to address problem areas.
Why should I send my child here instead of traditional day care?Traditional day care has been a life saver for many parents. But our after-school program is not only a help to parents, but to the children. Our Director is a degreed elementary school teacher, and our staff members have all had experience working with children. Your child will get more than "day care". he or she will get academic help, and enriching programs that would not be found in day care.
Won't my child feel like this is just "more school"?We certainly hope not! The After-School environment is fun! Children learn without knowing they are learning because they are having fun. And, experience from other similar programs shows that children look at their program as a "Club". It's "cool" to be there. In fact, we hope your child will have so much fun that they'll recommend it to their friends.
My child can't be there every day.We know that children have busy schedules these days, and there are other after school activities -- such as sports, dance... -- that they are involved in. We are happy to have your child for whatever number of days that his or her schedule allows.
How do I know my child will be safe there?
Our program is licensed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and we comply with all their regulations. Our ratio is one staff member to 12 or fewer children. Our staff members all have State Police and Child Abuse clearances. We have a detailed sign-out procedure to which we will adhere rigidly to ensure that your child only leaves with the people you designate.
Does my child qualify for the program?Any child in grades one through six residing within the area served by the Lathrop Street Elementary School, whether a student at that school or home schooled, may register for the program.
The tuition is $35 for a full week, payable one week in advance. on Friday or the last full school day of the week. the tuition is prorated at $7 per day for weeks with fewer than 5 days.
NO child will be turned away because the parents can not afford the tuition. Tuition assistance is available. Please talk to our Director. (If your child qualifies for free or reduced lunch at school, you will most likely qualify for tuition assistance from our program. But don't let that be your guide. Talk to us!)
