EDUCATION

1984-1994 Ph.D. studies in Communications in the Radio-Television-Film and
Journalism Departments of Temple University's School of Communications and
Theatre. My research centered on images of people, places and things as
portrayed in the mass media and the influence popular culture has on the
media, as well as the media's influence on the predominant culture.

1983 Graduated from the United States Catholic Conference (USCC) Frank J.
Lewis Campus Ministry School at Niagara University in New York.

1973 Master of Divinity (M.Div.) Degree awarded Magna Cum Laude by the
Philadelphia Theological Seminary of St. Charles Borromeo, Overbrook. The
focus of my Master's Degree work was twofold: in Sacred Scripture and
Liturgy.

WPEN-AM and WPEN-FM as Production Coordinator of the Communications
Department of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Overbrook, which had the
highest ratings in the Fourth Market Area for the time slot, and which were
later syndicated to WAEB-FM in Bethlehem, PA and WSAN-AM in Allentown.

1969-1972 Associate Producer of the Philadelphia Catholic Hour, a weekly
radio show on WFIL-AM with a weekly audience of 110,000.

Film

1985 Wrote, produced, directed and narrated The State of the Arts:
Aesthetics in Film Criticism, a video presentation and commentary on film
criticism.

1980 Wrote, produced, directed and narrated Sharing the Light of Faith, a
slide-sound presentation about Bishop Kenrick High School for the Middle
States Accrediting Association's evaluation of the school.

1972 Wrote, produced, directed and narrated The Psalms: A Christian Prayer
Form, a slide-sound presentation to teach the Book of Psalms that is still
used regularly at St. Charles Seminary, Mary Immaculate Seminary and
Georgetown University.

1971 Wrote, produced, directed and narrated The Four Sources of the
Pentateuch, a slide-sound presentation that aids in teaching Form Criticism,
Historical Criticism, Literary Criticism and Redaction Criticism in Biblical
Studies.

November 18, 2005 - I was the subject of the lead editorial "From the Editor's Desk" by Tom Roberts in the National Catholic Reporter about the priest sex abuse scandal, the Grand Jury Report, and the Archdiocesan response to the Grand Jury Report. He concluded "I admire and applaud McLaughlin's example." The article was entitled "The Courage to Talk Plainly."

November 6, 2005 - subject of feature article by Emilie Loundsberry, legal writer, in the Philadelphia Inquirer, on the priest sex abuse scandal, the Grand Jury Report, and the Archdiocesan response to the Grand Jury Report.

October 20, 2005 - Follow up article by Ronnie Polaneczky in the Philadelphia Daily News on the priest sex abuse scandal, the Grand Jury Report, and the Archdiocesan response to the Grand Jury Report. The angle was the large positive response to my comments and stand Ronnie had received the first week after the interview was published.

international academic convocation celebrating the 100th anniversary of the
death of Cardinal Newman, held in conjunction with the 250th anniversary of
the University of Pennsylvania. Also designed the hotel and conference
registration process, database and three-color brochure.

1987-1988 Designed and orchestrated national publicity campaign, recruitment
program, conference theme and logo, and hotel registration process for the
Fourth Annual National Leadership Conference of the National Catholic
Student Coalition at the Wyndham Franklin Plaza Hotel, which increased
campus affiliations by 75% nationally, which, to date, is still the best
attended conference in NCSC's history.

1982-Present I design and orchestrate all advertising for the Temple
University Newman Center locally, regionally, state-wide, and nationally. I
also designed the logos and advertising for the Pennsylvania Catholic Newman
Province and the National Catholic Student Coalition, including the logo for
the 1988 NCSC National Conference.
