Humane Society manager fired
By Brian J. Gafney
| The controversial Elizabeth Anderson was dismissed
as Susquehanna County Humane Society branch manager at the end of last
week.
Erik Hendricks, executive director of the Pa. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), refused to give specifics for the dismissal, saying, "We are no different than any other employer. We expect certain things, and if we don't get them, we must make changes." Anderson was out of her home at the Montrose location by the weekend. With Anderson gone, the county Humane Society is under the management of Monroe County |
Humane Society branch manager Barbara Balsama, but Hendricks
said the SPCA is looking for a permanent new branch manager. He said the
new manager may be drawn from the county or the seven SPCA districts surrounding
it. "We are looking for someone who can wear a lot of hats," he said.
"You have to be able to handle people and handle the public, be a uniformed officer, a humane educator. And you have to be able to live where you work. This is a job not suited to 99 and a half percent of the population." Prospective managers can contact Hendricks at his Philadelphia office, 215-426-5848. |
