Little Boo Peke
This little old girl came to live with us on June 30, 1999, a foster dog from the Luzerne County SPCA. She was picked up as a stray, covered with fleas and burrs, emaciated (only 8 pounds) blind in one eye, with an ulcer in the middle of the other one, a result of dry eye which was neglected by her owners. When the owners were located they said they "didn't notice she was missing." She was a wonderful little dog, so loving and incredibly well behaved...she was no trouble! Her name was BooToo, but we just called her "Boo" ;0) Boo had a wonderful appetite for her Innova food, and quickly gained weight, reaching a perfect 11 pounds in no time.
With proper treatment the corneal ulcer healed. A visit to Dr. Jerry Glickstein in the fall of 1999 made a big difference for Boo. He prescribed a cyclosporine compound that we got from a compounding pharmacy in New Jersey, and that made her eye much more comfortable. No more rubbing her eye and crying. I continued to carry Refresh Plus ampules in my pocket for occasional times during the day that her eye would get dry.
Boo, the morning after she came to stay with us. She was pretty tired out from her ordeal. Here, she was sleeping in the kitchen at the lake house (with Gretchen's *huge* toy) on a pillow that came to be her favorite spot.

Here she just woke up. She often slept with her tongue out.
Boo liked to sleep on newspaper, and especially liked
it when it was on the shelf under a table in the living room.
It was a great spot for her to jump out at the other dogs
when they were in play mode.
After having a bath, her tail looked especially lovely. Notice the underbite! Her left eye was the blind one. Both eyes looked much better.
December, 2004: Boo is still with us. She is almost completely blind now, and her hearing is nearly gone, but she lives a good life, sleeping about 23 hours a day, and eating like a little trooper. We speculate that she is about 17-18 years old. Go BOO!
