"Tet Ansanm"--All Together

There is a school in Haiti,
a small and quiet school
where children try and learn
and teachers try and teach
among the sadness, strife, and grief.

There is a school in Greenwood Valley,
a small and quiet school
where children learn, think, and strive
and teachers challenge and enthuse
among the trees, grass, and light.

"Tet Ansanm"--All Together

There are two schools,
small and quiet schools
where friendship grows
and knowledge grows
and love extends its hand.

There is a spirit in these schools,
a spirit shouting to be heard,
for peace, hope, and renewal,
a light that shines in every child
in these small and quiet schools.

Development Officer for
Greenwood Friends School

Our "Sister" School in Haiti

Greenwood Friends School has a "sister" school in Haiti, at a place called Babaco-Hatte Cotin.

Our students have exchanged letters with students there. That happened in 1997. Since then we have made further contacts. Director Sheila Lunger and kindergarten teacher Taci Styer visited Haiti in May 1998. In February 1999, Violet Fox co-teacher Judy Hunchar took gifts from our school to Haiti.

We have done some thinking about Haiti, and about people our age who attend the Babaco-Hatte Cotin school. Dara Oden, our development officer, wrote the poem you see here.

Can you think of ways in which we can gain a better understanding of the children in Babaco-Hatte Cotin, in the rest of Haiti, and in other parts of the world?

Our contacts with Babaco-Hatte Cotin were first reported in the school newsletter that came out in May 1996.
