As the ground swell to enforce support orders grows, so does the right of privacy decrease for the spouses of parents involved in litigation.

A W-2 form is required at a support hearing. If a parent and spouse file jointly, the financial status and social security number of the spouse becomes a matter of record and available to the ex-spouse. The income of a spouse is not relevant to the proceedings, and is not considered when the court determines the total income when calculating support.

These proceedings are typically not based on a friendly relationship between the parties. The access to someone's income and especially their Social Security Number can really be a weapon in the wrong hands.

The health insurance provider is another source of private information. In most cases the father is required to provide health insurance for his children. To do this the card and ID# must be turned over to the mother. She can now call the provider, give the ID# and have any question she asks, answered. Health care is a source of very personal information.

The loss of privacy is a hurdle that some may not want to surmount when considering remarriage.
