"We must find a way to stop this tragedy. We must help fathers re-establish loving relationships with their children".

I couldn't agree more, but I think we need to identify why some fathers are absent. It is not always because they don't care, more often than we would like to admit it is because they are kept away.

  1. Kept away by a vengeful spouse
  2. Kept away by a system that truly does not recognize the rights of a Father to be a parent
  3. Kept away by a system that makes it almost financially impossible to pursue visitation.
  4. Kept away by a system that presumes a mother automatically is entitled to be the primary and physical custodian of children.

It would be nice to see something other than rhetoric about how important Fathers are to their children. You only have to sit in a family court for one day to see how the system works and doesn't work. The system is ready willing and able to put fathers in jail, it is rare to see a Mother prosecuted for denying visitation.
