New Jersey's Gift to Father's 2000

Now that we have all the legislation in place to penalize father's who don't pay child support, perhaps we could look towards finding a way to assist in the process of father's having a fair share in the raising of their children. We need to look at Judges, mediators, therapists and the like who look for the path of least resistance. They do not seem to want to enforce any laws that are in place when it comes to visitation, it is not easy to make someone answer a door, be civil, and encourage relationships - it is much easier to just give the mother her way. This means, in the end, children lose time with their father's.

New Jersey's Father's day gift to father's paying support is a threatening letter disguised as informational from the Department of Human Services Division of Family Development Office of Child Support and Paternity.

It appears this is the state of New Jersey's means of sharing what they will do to father's if they don't toe the mark. This letter was sent to everyone in their child support database, whether they initiated to pay their child support , are up-to-date or who knows possibly even dead. I have to imagine it does not get sent to a number of fathers, who in fact are not paying support for their children, because they have managed to stay out of the system.

The threats included but were not limited to: suspension of driver's, occupational, and recreational licenses. A driver's license can be suspended without prior notice. Every employer must report new hires within 20 days to be matched against the database, seizure of assets, interception of taxes, credit reports, and denial of passports.

The website that the State of New Jersey created with the "best interest of the child/ren" in mind has absolutely nothing about the importance of children growing up with their father as a consistent part of their lives. The state really does not care if children have father's around on a regular basis, they don't make any money off of visitation.

If only the state, the country -would truly recognize that fathers really do want to participate in the lives of their children. Children really do need their fathers during the formative years, and should not have to wait until they are almost adults before they can try to begin a relationship with a parent who has been there all along.

The insensitivity of the State of New Jersey, to send out this mailing just as Father's day approaches only continues to reaffirm that it is all about money. Let us not forget, to the best of my knowledge, only one mother has ever been prosecuted in the State of New Jersey for denying visitation after she altered the children's identities and took them out of state.
