Floorboards

Getting in and out of a Challenger is sometimes, well, a challenge. Seemed to me that it'd be easier if there were a firm place to put your feet while worming your way in. This photo shows the front floor piece shaped and fitted. The bend at the front spans between and fastens to the front landing gear cross tube and the 1/2" cross tube I added above it to support the battery box. This will reinforce both of them by creating a beam-like structure.

Here's that front floorboard installed. The 'experimental' placard is placed in a 1/32" deep area machined into the surface of the plate. The plate itself is sanded with a random orbit sander to create a nice matte finish that looks sort of like sandblasted metal. This contrasts nicely with the shiny machined recessed metal behind the black letters. The switch panel at the bottom of the instrument panel is hinged for access to the wiring behind it including the hotbox and battery. It's held to the floorboard with two bolts near the lower corners. |

The floorboard for the rear seat is a flat plate of the same stock shaped to fit around the stick and seat support structure. Another reason I wanted floorboards is that I expect to have kids as passengers fairly regularly and I could just see little feet depreciating the bottom fabric either accidentally or otherwise especially since they can't really reach the rudder pedals with them short little legs....
