Talking in public
Nothing is easier than talking in public in a channel : just type what you want to say and it will appear on the other users' screens.
Private conversations
If you want some text to go to 1 user only, use the /msg command.
Its syntax is simple : /msg nick the text you want to send
A "neat" command
While in a channel you will sometimes notice lines that look like
* Someone does this and that
It's called an action. On most clients you can do the same by typing "/me does something".
That command may be called /action in some clients, and unfortunately some clients don't support it at all but they are very few.
