The relationship between days and dates has always been cordial but tenuous -- you will notice that from year to year, there is very little long-term coziness between days and dates; it seems mutually agreed that the dates will drift promiscuously from one day to the next ("I saw March 27th out last night on a Wednesday -- wasn't he dating Tuesday this time last year?").
