"Father's Day is believed to have begun in 1909. Although there have been other observances before and after this date,
Louise Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington is commonly credited with the original idea for Father's Day. William
Smart, Louise's own father, was her inspiration. William was widowed when his wife died giving birth to their sixth
child. In appreciation of her father's dedication to their family after the death of her mother Louise set out to honor all
fathers."
