One of the things I love about this geocaching thing
is the places it takes me to, right here in Northeastern PA, that I
never knew existed. Take, for example, Salt Springs State Park, a little
gem about eight miles from Montrose...

I had a feeling I was going to like
this place as soon as I saw the "Park Office," a delightfully
restored farm house, and the little interesting things that surrounded
it.

Especially the thistle. ;-)

The Trail Head - a nice prospect! |
 |

And the stream. |
 |
Steep cliffs hug the
stream, which has its share of wide pools, little water falls, and
a nice log bridge - go ahead, I dare you! |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
And if you look closely,
you can find the little critters... water skeeters and a catterpiggle
stranded on a rock - how did he get there?!? |
 |
 |

The cache was up above, and I was down below, so
I had to scramble up from the stream, and found - an easy
path! (Not fun at all, but a very good thing for the handicapped
- a very nice touch, I think! |
 |
 |

The Penny Rock, nice views through majestic trees,
and a lot of that little puff-ball green moss. All you could want!
|
When I am dead and gone, I hope
someone will find a nice place like this, and place a nice, substantial
teak bench there in memory of me, just like they did for Mary
Leasure, of Long Ford Lake. A plaque is not necessary - people
will know.

Almost sad to see this
delightful walk come to an end, I returned to the Park Office, to
find the Big Momma Xterra peeking at me through the windows. I wonder
what she thinks when I go off into the woods? |
With thanks to Zhanna and Aaron, geocachers
extraordinaire, for showing me yet another beautiful place so close
to my own backyard. |
