Barb’s Dyestuff
There are many
things that interest me I will try and show you a little of everything.
I love everything from crafts to computers. I am very eclectic or so I am told. Hope what you see here doesn’t bore you. LOL

Here is a picture of some yarn that I dyed using natural dyestuffs. Such as Cochineal, Indigo, Onion skins, Saxon blue and Cutch.
I also spun some of the yarn I dyed going from left to right in numerical order
I spun numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7.
From left to right yarn dyed with: Indigo, Purple onion skins, Cutch with a Saxon blue over dye, and the Cochineal. And the loose fiber below was also dyed with Cochineal.
Here is what these dyestuffs are really.
Indigo – Is fermented leaves from the indigo bush.
Purple onions skins – Is the dry out layer of the purple onion.
Cutch – Is and extract from the Cutch tree.
Saxon Blue – Is also derived from the leaves of an indigo bush but is not fermented.
Cochineal – Are small bugs that are ground to give a beautiful range of reds.
