MAYA ART PAGES
I have put together two collections of Mayan art containing,
arguably, the finest painting and sculpture produced by the
Mayan civilization during its classic period (400-800 A.D.).
The collections are of two different types. One collection contains
over 130 roll-out photographs of Maya Vases (used with the permission
of the copyright-owning photographer Justin Kerr).

The other is a photographic journey through the classic Mayan site of Copan,
located in Honduras. The sculpture of Copan is among the finest ever created
by any pre-Columbian culture. I have provided detailed photographs of
the principal stelae and sculpture located at Copan and detailed photographs
of the heiroglyphic inscriptions on principal stelae.
The best book (magnificently illustrated) on Maya Vases,
their artistic styles, places of origin, uses, and inscriptions is
Painting the Maya Universe: Royal Ceramics of the Classic Period,
by Dorie Reents-Budet, forwards by Michael Mezzatesta and Linda Schele,
photographs by Justin Kerr.
The best book on the history and hieroglyphics of
Copan's great-court stelae is
The Code of Kings:
The Language of Seven Sacred Maya Temples and Tombs,
by Linda Schele, Peter Mathews, Justin Kerr (Photographer), Macduff Everton
The Maya: Ancient People and Places is
The best beginner's book on the Maya, their history and their culture
by Michael Coe
