THE SECRET IN THE MITHRAEUM - INTERACTIVE FICTION WITH JOHN THE EUNUCH

(NOTE: To run this game the files mithra.acd, mithra.dat, and arun.exe must be in the same directory. Go to the DOS Prompt and type: arun mithra then press <enter>. You may also simply click on the file mithra.acd but you will then have to manually close DOS when you are finished)

In interactive fiction, you make things happen by typing in a simple command at the prompt > and pressing <enter>.

For example if you want to go north, type "north" or "n" for short and press <enter>. You will then see a description of where you are.

You can interract with your surroundings. For instance you can:

"take" things. For instance >'take ball' <enter> (or "get" ball)
"examine" things more closely. >'examine ball' (or just use 'x')
	"drop" things
	"move" things
"open" or "read" things if necessary

You can perform quite a few common actions. Experiment and see what works. Pay attention to the descriptions and to the words used in the descriptions since these tend to give you clues to the particular words the game understands. (Kind of like a mystery!)

Be observant. To take another look around an area after you've entered it just type in "look" or "l." And don't forget that you have other senses as well, that might just come in useful.

It is very important to examine all objects closely, since a closer examination can reveal important details. You should also collect any objects that might prove useful. To see what you are carrying type "inventory" or just "i."

You can "save" and later "restore" your saved game.

Because there aren't any pictures in this game so it might seem archaic to you, but to someone from 535 AD it is pretty hot stuff!"

This game is copyright 1999 by Eric Mayer.

It was written using the ALAN Adventure Language.
ALAN is an interative fiction authoring system by Thomas Nilsson

Further information about the ALAN system can be obtained from the World Wide Web Internet site http://www.pp.softlab.se/thomas.nilsson/alan

The author cautions that this particular game, which might be subtitled 'Bugs in Byzantium' does not represent he real capabilities of the Alan Language but does demonstrate Alan's amazing ability to allow someone who has never done an iota of computer programming of any kind to produce SOMETHING within two weeks! Lots of fun too.
